Rum, Snuff  and Swordplay

 A PINCH OF SNUFF

The show would be nothing without a wee pinch of snuff!
Up to 1800 nearly all  tobacco was snuffed! We tell its fascinating history that includes Columbus, Napoleon and explains why lawyers liked to take their time, and tailors liked the smell.

The colonials called King George III's wife 'Snuffy' Charlotte because of her addiction to her snuff which she called her 'Crumbs of Comfort.' Ladies especially enjoyed snuff as they were forbidden to smoke.

The audience will get a chance to experience the same fine snuff they were snorting in the 1700's, and understand how its popularity started 'The Tobacco War'. Finally, a brief but fascinating presentation of how a Colonial gentleman carried his snuff box and his short sword!

SNUFF TASTING/NOSING!
We bring along a variety of snuffs and boxes to explain this obsession. We can let you try Dark and Moist, Kendall Brown and Irish Toast. Remember, the first is free, after that, I am your dealer!

Wait until you hear about British coalminers and their underground snuff competitions that continue to the day. A fascinating story as to why it was reserved for royalty, and then suddenly seen as working class!

We can also light up and talk about the long pipe and why it got shorter!

If you are the type to enjoy Rum and Snuff, you might enjoy some Bawdy ballads from the 18th century! Shocking songs, unabridged, truely historic and delivered without blushing!
